Ireland-based food ingredients and cheese maker Glanbia has opened a production site in China to cater for functional food and beverage manufacturers.

The facility, based in Suzhou, north-west of Shanghai, will “develop value-adding nutritional solutions”, Glanbia said.
The plant will produce nutritional premixes incorporating vitamins, minerals, nucleotides and amino acids, to cater for Asia- Pacific’s fast-growing food and nutrition sectors.
Earlier this month, Glanbia reported it was on-target to achieve double-digit growth for the year.
In a mid-year trading update ahead of its interim results, due to be published on 27 August, the company posted a “good first half-year performance”, with all its divisions performing broadly in-line with expectations.
