US supermarket retailer Kroger has informed its customers that none of the ground beef now on sale at its stores originates from Nebraska Beef, a Kroger supplier recently linked with an E. coli outbreak in Michigan and central and northern Ohio.
Earlier this week, Kroger extended the voluntary recall initiated last week for Kroger stores in Michigan and central and northern Ohio to include pre-packed ground beef products in Styrofoam trays, or purchased from in-store meat counters at its Fred Meyer, QFC and Kroger stores, with sell-by dates between 21 May and 5 July.
While the retailer reiterated that none of the ground beef involved in the Nebraska Beef recall is now available in Kroger’s family of stores, it asked customers to check ground beef they have at home in their refrigerators and freezers for the “sell-by” dates previously announced.
The retailer said customers of Kroger stores in North Carolina, Northeastern Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia should check for ground beef products with “sell-by” dates of 19 May through to 3 July, a change from the previously announced dates.
