The Alabama plans have already begun packing product for Russia and the company said it expects to resume shipments shortly, while the Dallas plant will resume production today (26 July).

Don Jackson, Pilgrim’s Pride president and chief executive, said: “Russia is an important export market for US chicken and the re-opening of the borders will be a significant benefit to our company and industry.”

Earlier this month, Russian officials signed a formal poultry agreement with the US outlining new processing requirements for domestic chicken that is to be exported to Russia.

Earlier this year, Russia banned all US chicken that had been processed with chlorinated water.
