Carrefour franchise operator Guyenne et Gascogne said its business is performing in line with expectations, as it booked an increase in first-half sales.
For the six month period, total sales increased 5.1% to reach EUR278,048 (US$356,560), while for the second quarter, sales rose 5.5% to EUR145,179.
“On the whole, business over the first half of 2010 was in line with the observations made previously, confirming the sluggish environment which is affecting household consumption,” the firm said.
The company said its Sogara subsidiary recorded an improvement during the second quarter, but is still down, penalised by textiles in particular and growing regional competition.
Sales for Sogara in the first-half dropped 2.3% to EUR753,643. In the second quarter, sales slid 1.2% to EUR385,116.
