Bakkavor Group has revealed plans to close its UK pasta plant in Scunthorpe at the end of the month.

“Following the 90-day consultation period at the Bakkavor Pasta site at Scunthorpe, Bakkavor can confirm that this facility will be closing on 30th May 2008,” a spokesperson for the Iceland-based company told just-food this morning (20 May).
The company revealed that 107 employees at Bakkavor Pasta will be affected by the closure.
“The business is fully committed to doing everything possible to minimise its impact. Bakkavor is working closely with the affected employees, focusing on finding them alternative roles at its other sites or with other employers in the region,” the spokesperson said.
The closure has been sparked by the increased cost of raw materials and a declining market.
The news comes only three weeks after Bakkavor announced it had made two acquisitions.
