Foodland reported third-quarter sales of A$1.62bn (US$1.06bn), in line with analysts forecasts, and said year-to-date sales were up 48.7% to $4.8bn.

The company said its nine-month profit was up around 25% from a year earlier value of $102.4m.

Foodland managing director Trevor Coates said the company has had a number of non-binding offers for its non-core 60-store Farmers general merchandise chain.

Foodland’s sales result was helped by its newly expanded New Zealand supermarket division. Foodland bought an 85-store chain there nine months ago making it the second-biggest grocer in New Zealand.
