Zhongpin, one of China’s largest pork processors, has a plant based in Cangshan County, some 200km from the epicentre of the earthquake, which hit Sichuan on Monday (12 May).
Nevertheless, Zhongpin said the risk of aftershocks meant it had decided to close the facility, which produces 12.5% of the company’s chilled and frozen pork.
The company is mulling whether to transfer production to other facilities in central China.
