The ready meals-to-seafood maker said the deal would allow it to substantially grow its Italian business.

With turnover of EUR8.8m (US$13.7m) in 2007, D&F is one of Alfesca’s main distributors in Italy.

D&F concentrates on Italy’s retail grocery and foodservice markets and will continue to be run by existing management.

“D&F’s strong position combined with Alfesca’s category leading skills will form a solid foundation from which Alfesca will be able to offer Italian customers a complete range of seafood products,” Alfesca CEO Xavier Govare said.

Alfesca declined to reveal the purchase price but said it would not affect the company’s results.
