It produces 900,000 portions daily at the plant and output is set to rise to more than 1m fresh and frozen portions daily following the 7,000 sq m extension, which is scheduled to be completed by summer 2011.

The expansion is also expected to lead to the creation of 70 jobs, the company told just-food.

Cité Marine, majority-owned by Japanese group Nissui since 2007, already employs 425 staff at the site. It posted a turnover of EUR80m in 2009.

The increase in capacity at the Kervignac plant could provide scope for Cité Marine to develop its export trade, which accounts for only a small part of total sales.
