Nestlé today (25 April) opened an infant nutrition manufacturing plant in Switzerland as part of its ongoing health and wellness drive.

The factory, based in the Swiss town of Konolfingen, formerly manufactured milk powder, Nestlé spokesman François-Xavier Perroud told just-food.


“We stopped production of milk powder because of its commodity-driven nature. The facility will now manufacture a highly sophisticated infant formula,” Perroud said.


The plant will produce NAN, a branded infant formula that reduces the risk of allergies.


Nestlé said the inauguration marked the first stage of a series of investments totalling around CHF180m (US$174m) over the next three years.

The new site will benefit from synergies with Nestlé’s Product Technology Centre, also based in Konolfingen, the company said.


Nestlé declined to provide details of the site’s initial production capacity.
