Anti-GM activists forced entry to contained glasshouse facilities at the Crop and Food Research centre in Lincoln yesterday [Thursday] and destroyed thousands of genetically modified potatoes.

Centre employees have revealed that initial estimates put the number of plants lost to the saboteurs at about 1334. The plants were part of three research programmes being conducted at the centre.

To gain entry to the crop, the activists cut through a wall – they then systematically emptied potted plants into rubbish sacks and sliced off plant tops.

According to the Evening Post, local police forces are treating the attack seriously have said that when the culprits are caught they will be charged with criminal damage.
