US nut maker producer Diamond Foods has appointed Edward Blechschmidt to its board of directors.

Blechschmidt, who will also serve as chairman of Diamond’s audit committee, was CEO of Novelis, the aluminium can maker, from December 2006 until its sale to the Birla Group in May last year.
“We are very pleased to welcome Ed Blechschmidt to the Diamond Foods board,” said chairman John Gilbert. “We are looking forward to drawing on his experience to help guide the company’s growth into the future.”
