GCMMF said the move was a logical decision for the business, given that the company already uses some of the ingredients to make bakery products.

“Bakery is a new product category for us, but it has great synergy with our existing product range,” said Amul Dairy MD Rahul Kumar. “We will be rolling out bakery products in the next couple of months in local markets.”

The range will be test-marketed by the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers’ union, one of 13 co-operatives that make up GCMMF.

Kaira vice-chairman Rajendra Singh Parmar said: “We would test market in the Anand and Kaira districts of Gujarat under the Amul brand before firming up plans.”
