The global bakery sector is set for further consolidation, according to Danish bakery group Lantmännen Unibake, which is looking to further invest in North America and Europe.
The company, which earlier this week said it would step back from its ventures in Asia to focus on Europe and North America, indicated that there is likely to be a shake-up in the bakery industry worldwide.
“I think it’s safe to say that everyone is looking into consolidation – that is a trend,” a spokesman for Lantmännen Unibake told just-food today. “We’re looking at opportunities worldwide.”
The spokesman, however, refused to be drawn on how Lantmännen Unibake plans to expand in Europe and North America, two regions where the group plans to bolster its business.
The plans come as Lantmännen Unibake hands over control over its sales operations in Japan and South Korea.
The spokesman insisted the moves would improve Lantmännen Unibake’s business in the markets through an expansion of its sales force.
