S&B plans to stop producing crisps and other snack foods as part of efforts to focus on its core spice and seasoning business.

S&B, which entered the snack business in 1977, said sales of its snack foods have declined in recent years.

In the year to March 2003, snack food sales totalled ¥2bn (US$17.1m), accounting for 2% of the company’s total sales.

S&B said the withdrawal from the snacks business would not affect earnings for the current year to March 2004, reported Jiji Press.
