The French supermarket operators’ association, FCD, has signed a national minimum wage agreement with unions that will see pay jump over 6% on average.

Starting pay for supermarket workers will now be EUR1,344 (US$1,960) gross a month or pro rata.
The deal represents a 6.5% average rise and comes in a package that has preserved existing grades and levels. Breaks will now be paid at 5%, a key demand from workers.
Staff have also been concerned by automated checkouts, since cashiers have the best-paid shop-floor grades.
The new agreement takes hourly gross rates to over EUR9 an hour, above the national minimum wage of EUR 8.27 per hour, a rate which will be revised this summer.
