The Finnish Food and Drink Industries Federation (ETL) said it is “concerned” that a three-day strike by the food industry in Finland will lead to a shortage of grocery products.
Food workers in Finland, led by The Finnish Food Workers Union, began a three-day strike yesterday (7 April) following the collapse of talks over pay increases.

As a result, the strike, which involves 4,500 workers, has resulted in the closure of 12 bakeries and meat processing plants.
A spokesperson for the Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation told just-food that it was concerned over the low supplies of some grocery products.
“The question is that these bakeries, two big bakeries make all the products, so there are some empty shelves at the markets.
“This is a three-day strike and there are five companies and 12 productions plants that are on strike. The question now is about reaching an agreement with the employees and the companies,” the spokesperson said. “They want too much money. The basic question is about money.”

By GlobalDataIt is understood the union has threatened a further, wider strike on 21 April if no settlement is reached by then, that will involve more employees, plants and factories.
The spokesperson for the ETL said it will try to continue negotiations next week but no date had yet been decided on for a meeting.
Union officials could not be reached for immediate comment.
