The Toronto-based company recalled its My Organic Baby 227g Step A&B cereals after new packaging introduced last year resulted in a change in the taste and aroma of the product, affecting its freshness.

Orlee Murloff, founder of My Organic Baby, said: “We want to take this opportunity to reassure you that this is a packaging issue, not a product quality issue.  In our efforts to provide you with a product that would stay fresh, we added an environmentally-friendly inner bag to the packaging last year.

“Despite testing at the time, recent third-party independent laboratory testing has revealed that the packaging used has created a change in the taste and aromatic profiles of the cereals and affected the product’s shelf life.  However, the lab results indicated that there was no change to the product that would cause health concerns.”

The products recalled were the brown rice, barley, oatmeal and multigrain lines. The company is working with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to ensure all proper protocols are followed and assisting in the development of a consumer alert.
