Carrefour franchise operator Guyenne et Gascogne today (18 March) hailed the “resilience” of its business in 2009 despite annual profits falling by more than 21%.

The company, which runs stores in France and Spain, booked net profit of EUR25m (US$34m) for 2009, against net profit of EUR31.8m in 2008. Revenues dipped 0.2% to EUR515.2m.

“Thanks to its sound finances and the appeal of its brands, the Guyenne et Gascogne Group showed resilience over 2009 in a particularly sluggish environment, especially in Spain,” the company said.
