The US retail behemoth yesterday (14 January) named Vicente Trius as president and CEO of Wal-Mart Asia, where he will oversee the company’s business in Japan and China.

“Having Vicente based in the region will bring focus to our Asia business and help us continue the rapid growth of our retail operation,” said Wal-Mart vice chairman Michael Duke.

Wal-Mart has been bullish about its prospects in China and sees its business growing 30% a year.

In Japan, however, Wal-Mart has moved to take full control of its local venture, Seiyu, after a run of lacklustre results.
