Duke Street Capital, which bought Burton’s last year, has acquired Northumbrian Fine Foods for an undisclosed sum.

Northumbrian Fine Foods, based in Gateshead, makes branded biscuits under licence including Traidcraft Geobars and Ainsley Harriott, as well as private-label cookies and cereal bars.

Burton’s, which makes Wagon Wheels and Jammy Dodgers, said the deal would strengthen its presence in the more healthy and indulgent ends of the biscuit category.

“It will enable us to exploit opportunities on a number of brands and increase our presence in the growing high value segments,” said Burton’s CEO Paul Kitchener.
