Lifeway Foods has announced a full-year sales increase of 40% for 2007 driven by the growth of probiotic drink Kefir.

The US firm also posted a fourth-quarter sales rise of 29% for the three months to the end of December.
Julie Smolyansky, Lifeway’s CEO, said: “The fourth quarter of 2007 was another outstanding quarter for Lifeway Foods. Both of our main brands, the Lifeway and Helios Kefir line’s had their best quarters in terms of revenues ever. We are seeing that Kefir continues to grow in popularity and expect that 2008 will be yet another strong year.”
Lifeway did not disclose profit figures for the fourth quarter or the full year.
In November, the company posted posted a 4% fall in third-quarter profits to US$2.7m, as the cost of milk soared 100% against a year ago.
