Italian dairy giant Parmalat said today (29 January) that it was not interested in bidding for the dairy assets of Spanish food group Ebro Puleva.
The company told just-food that there were “no grounds” for the specualtion in Italy that the group could make a move for Ebro’s dairy business. “It’s not true,” a spokesperson said.
In a statement issued yesterday, Ebro, which had faced growing rumours over its dairy business, revealed that “several companies” had expressed an interest in the operations.
Ebro said its board would consider the approaches before deciding on the future over the business, which it claimed remained central to its strategy.
The Parmalat spokesperson, meanwhile, insisted the company was “looking” for “more deals” but said no M&A activity was imminent.
Parmalat will issue its 2009 results on 25 February.
