Cadbury-owned organic chocolate maker Green & Black’s plans to move its entire range to Fairtrade by the end of 2011.

The company’s Maya Gold bar was the first official Fairtrade product to go on sale in the UK 15 years ago and the firm said today (28 January) that its range of chocolate bar and beverage products will start to carry the independent Fairtrade mark in the UK from later this year.

Green & Black’s plans to convert its entire range across all markets to Fairtrade by the end of 2011.

The business said the move, which will take in around 30 markets, will make the business the “world’s leading manufacturer of organic Fairtrade chocolate”.

Dominic Lowe, MD of Green & Black’s said: “Moving to Fairtrade globally will be a key milestone in our relationship with farmers that are so fundamental in the making of what we consider to be the best tasting, premium, organic, and soon to be Fairtrade, range of chocolate you can buy.”

Owner Cadbury switched its Dairy Milk brand to Fairtrade in the UK last summer and has laid out plans for similar moves in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
