Tesco has said it will expand further in the Czech Republic this year with the opening of a further 30 stores in the country.
In the first half of 2010, Tesco has forecast the opening of 12 stores, to include four hypermarkets and eight other stores.
A spokesperson for Tesco told just-food: “What is key is that in all of our markets, despite the economic slowdown, we are continuing to open stores.”

The plans come after Tesco last year launched an expansion drive in the region. In 2009, the retailer announced plans to open over 130 stores in central and Eastern Europe throughout the year, with 20 of those in the Czech Republic.
Tesco operates in five countries across central and Eastern Europe including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Turkey.
