French desserts maker Maison Boncolac has acquired frozen desserts business Générale Pâtissière.
Générale Pâtissière makes frozen pâtisserie for supermarket channel and catering customers. It is expected to post sales of around EUR11.5m in 2011.
Earlier this year, Boncolac sold its ice cream division to UK-based R&R Ice Cream. The company said its acquisition of Générale Pâtissière was part of a strategy to focus on frozen sweet and savoury products.
“Our ice-cream production was not of sufficient size given the concentration in the sector and we prefer to focus our investments on pâtisserie and frozen deli products where we have a stronger position,” Boncolac MD Philippe Carré said.
Further acquisitions could follow, funded through the sale of the ice cream division.
