House of Raeford Farms Inc. has recalled one of its turkey with gravy products because its labels do not list “wheat flour,” a known allergen, and several other ingredients, Georgia’s Commissioner of Agriculture announced today.

“People with wheat sensitivity or allergy are cautious about eating prepared foods, and they often rely on labels to alert them and those who serve them. They should know about the recalled product, so they can inquire when eating out. These products were shipped to hotels, restaurants and other institutions in eight states, including Georgia, and the District of Columbia,” said Commissioner Irvin.

The mislabelled, recalled products are House of Raeford White Turkey with Gravy in six-pound aluminum trays produced 1 November 1999 to 16 May 2002. Just above the Net Wt. Statement, the shipping cases bear the product ID code “963” or “96300” and one of the following production codes: 9305 through 9365; 0001 through 0365; 1001 through 1365; 2001 through 2136.

The tray labels bear the product ID code “963-6” above the bar code. The number “P-1234” is in the USDA mark of inspection on the tray labels and shipping cases.

“The company has started to correct the labels, and if ‘wheat flour’ appears in the ingredient statement, this indicates a new corrected label and the product is not part of the recall,” Commissioner Irvin said. “Our Consumer Protection inspectors are checking retail and wholesale establishments in their areas to assure the recalled product is removed from sale.”
