The company said it began the review due to available capacity at the Leek site, which opened in 2009 following a GBP27m (US$42.3M) investment, in addition to the damage caused by the recent warehouse fire at Wincanton.

The firm has begun a consultation process with employee representatives and has said that staff could redeploy as 50 new positions are likely to be created in Leek.

Ian Toal, CEO of Adams Foods, said: “We recognise the role of Adams Foods Limited in the local area and the significant contribution of our employees at Wincanton and this will be considered as part of our consultation.

“If the outcome of the review results in the closure of the Wincanton facility we will seek to maximise opportunities for redeployment,” he added. “We have spoken to employees today and we are fully committed to maintaining open dialogue with them until this review has been concluded.”
