The EU and Norway have completed ratification of a new food trade deal that they hope will boost trade between the bloc and the Scandinavian country.

The agreement will see duties on around 60% of EU food exports to Norway will be removed or lowered. Between 2000 and 2010, EU food shipments to Norway doubled to EUR1.7bn (US$2.3bn).

Norway is granting the EU new low and duty-free import quotas for meat, plus additional quotas concerning cheese, cereals, fruits and vegetables, meat products and juices.

The EU will allow low and duty-free imports of Norwegian cheese, fresh raspberries and potato crisps in return.
