The Co-operative has added Peruvian chocolate to its Truly Irresistible Fairtrade chocolate range.

Growers in Peru are providing cocoa for three new bars of the Co-op’s own-brand Fairtrade chocolate – Creamy Milk, Dark Chocolate Hazelnut and Dark Chocolate and Cranberry.

Jenny Dixon, The Co-operative’s chocolate buyer said: “Shoppers want to know where their chocolate comes from, as they’re increasingly choosing their chocolate by the origin of its cocoa beans.

“The Co-operative has championed the Fairtrade mark since its inception, helping the UK become the largest Fairtrade market in the world, and we are proud to be the only supermarket whose entire own-brand block chocolate range is Fairtrade, and to be extending our commitment to cocoa growers in Peru.”

The bars are available at Co-op stores for GBP1.65 (US$2.27).
