Irminger was already CFO when he took on the role of CEO and Migros today (30 September) praised how he had led the company for the last seven months.

“At the beginning of the year the board chose Mario Irminger to provide leadership to Denner on the basis of his professional qualifications and his entreprenuerial personality. After a thorough review of internal and external solutions, we believe he is the ideal person to preside over the future of Denner in cooperation with the management team and board of directors,” board president Philippe Gaydoul and Dieter Berninghaus, head of Migros’s commerce department, said in a joint statement.

Denner, meanwhile, announced that former Metro Group, Rewe and Wal-Mart Stores executive Stephan Fanderl would join its board of directors. Fandelr had been advising Denner on a possible strategic review since February.
