UK food manufacturer Symington’s has launched a range of instant hot snacks under The Food Doctor brand.

The Wholesome Pots line are made with a combination of bulgar wheat and quinoa or cous cous, Symington’s said. The launch is part of a new licensing agreement with The Food Doctor.

The products are prepared by adding boiling water and are available in three flavours: bulgar wheat and quinoa with tomatoes, black olives and a pinch of basil; bulgar wheat and quinoa with asparagus; leek and a hint of mint and cous cous and lentils with tomatoes, red peppers and lightly spiced with cumin.

The launch coincides with The Food Doctor’s recent packaging revamp and extension of its product range, which has been refreshed to appeal to a wider range of consumers, Symington’s said. 

Andrew Wade, marketing controller at Symington’s, added: “The Food Doctor is a well-established brand with a very loyal following. It’s been looking to expand into other categories and we’re delighted that the team chose to work with us to launch its first instant snack. The product is set to take both The Food Doctor and Symington’s into a brand new direction, appealing to young professional women looking for a healthy, convenient lunchtime solution or men looking for a hot, instant snack.”

The Wholesome Pots are available in Tesco stores for GBP1.39 (US$2.17) each with an introductory offer of GBP1.00 for three weeks. The products will also be available from other retailers throughout the autumn, the company added.
