New Jersey based Cape May Foods has issued a recall of its LaMonica brand of chopped clams because they may be infected with potentially deadly botulism.

Consumer complaints about cans that look swollen led to the discovery of the contamination, as bulging is often a warning sign of the botulism. The US Food and Drug Administration has warned consumers however that normal-looking cans can also contain botulism.


The affected products are sold in 6.5-ounce cans and the batch was produced last March and bears the code C271C. They have been distributed in the Northeast of the USA.
