Morrisons, the UK’s fourth-largest retailer, has made two senior marketing appointments.

Marketing director Richard Lancaster has been promoted to the position of corporate marketing and operations director. In his new role, he will be responsible for all marketing communications as well as price and promotion across all formats. Lancaster will retain overall charge for corporate campaigns, the company said.

Meanwhile, James Condon has been appointed to replace Lancaster. He will take responsibility for advertising, in-store marketing, print services and local marketing.

Condon, a former executive at Tesco and Asda, had worked for Morrisons on an interim basis in the marketing team, a spokesperson told just-food.

Morrisons commerical director Richard Hodgson said the two appointments would help the retailer deliver on its “ambitious plans”. These include the roll out of the retailer’s M-Local convenience outlets and its “store of the future” concept where it looks to improve its current store estate.

“The continued roll out of our convenience trial and execution of the Store of the Future concept will be major projects in 2012 and these changes are two of many that we are making across our business to ensure we have the right talent in the right places to deliver our ambitious plans,” Hodgson said.
