US poultry firm Perdue Farms has launched Simply Smart, a range of frozen poultry products.

The portfolio includes Original Roasted Chicken Chunks and Original Grilled Chicken Strips, which are both sold in 22 oz bags.

Perdue’s new range also contains Lightly Breaded Chicken Chunks, Lightly Breaded Chicken Strips and Lightly Breaded Chicken Fillets, which are sold in 24 oz bags. Each product has a suggested retail price of $9.49.

Perdue said the range has been is designed to meet the growing demand for products that are “healthy and flavourful”.

Each product in the range has been developed to have at least 40% fewer calories, at least 50% less fat and at least 25% more protein than the USDA standard for breaded fried boneless chicken, the company said.

“Through outside research and focus groups we learned that consumers are looking for minimally processed, natural ingredients with no preservatives, and they want to know where their food is coming from,” Tom Mertensotto, Perdue’s vice president of ready-to-eat marketing/new ventures, said yesterday (19 September). “Our Simply Smart product line gives consumers the transparency they are looking for along with a healthier frozen food option that still tastes great.”
