Slovenian retailer Mercator is set to acquire Familija Marketi, the retail operations of Serbian company Robna kuca Beograd.
As part of the deal, announced on Friday (29 July), Mercator will take over the long-term operating leases on 27 of Robna kuca Beograd’s outlets in Belgrade, Vojvodina and central and south Serbia.
The stores will cover a sales area of over 22,000 square metres and the deal will also include the purchase of inventories, equipment and employee contracts of Familija Marketi, which currently operates in these facilities.
Mercator said the alliance will consolidate its position as the second largest retailer in the Serbian market. “The strategic alliance is consistent with Mercator’s strategy of growth and the vision of being the largest FMCG retailer in the entire region of south-east Europe,” the company said.
The deal remains subject to approval from the Serbian competition commission. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
