A Sea Salt version of the crisps, which have 130 calories per serving, will be the first on sale. Two other lines – Sea Salt and Vinegar and Salt and Fresh Ground Pepper – will be added later this summer.

The Sea Salt & Vinegar variety will launch on a “Krinkle Cut”, which Diamond Foods said answers requests to pair the “robust flavour” with a hearty, ridge-style chip. The manufacturer claims the chip will be the only all-natural, reduced fat, thick ridge-style chip on the market.

“We may have reduced the fat but the flavour is as indulgent as ever,” said Kettle brand marketing director Julie Dunmire. “We’re excited to offer consumers a choice of chip styles in traditional flavour favourites. Now when someone is seeking a healthier snacking choice, they can experience the same crunch, texture and great tasting, all natural flavour they crave. You truly cannot tell they are reduced fat without looking at the bag.”

The Sea Salt variety is available in 8-oz bags with a SRP of US$3.49.
