Japanese retailer Lawson has joined forces with Yahoo Japan Corp to launch an online shopping mall.

The two firms said today (24 June) that the initiative will be advantageous to both firms in serving both sets of consumers. The companies hope the alliance will “realise synergies between web services and real services to offer customers greater convenience”.

The shopping mall will provide an analysis of customer purchase records, and a joint supply of location-based information and stores, with an ultimate aim in establishing infrastructure for information and offering services that can be customised to each user.

“Web services have intrinsic advantages in information supply and use, while convenience stores have consumer value in their large number, locations, hours open, and range of actual products. By combining these two, the companies hope it will help customers to more easily buy whatever they want, whenever and wherever they need,” said the companies in a joint statement.
