“Premier Pulses is an excellent fit for our North American grain operations, as it is located in the primary pea and lentil growing regions in the northern US,” said Bob Miller, senior VP of Viterra’s North American grain division. “Expanding our operation into Minot presents an exciting opportunity which aligns with Viterra’s pulse merchandising growth strategy.”

He added: “Strong global demand fundamentals in the Middle East and Asia continue to drive increased pulse acreage. By increasing our footprint in these crops, we are able to better serve this demand while bringing Viterra’s expertise and value to local producers.”

Earlier this year, Viterra said it made “great progress” in its 2009/2010 financial year, delivering an increase in full-year profits.
