The Russian government first banned fresh vegetables from only Germany and Spain after German authorities claimed Spanish cucumbers had caused the outbreak, which has killed 18 people across Europe.
However, after it was found that the cucumbers were not responsible for the outbreak, Russia yesterday extended its ban to include all fresh vegetables from the EU.
The European Commission emphasised that the outbreak is restricted to a limited geographical area. It insisted it has kept all of its trading partners fully informed about all developments in the outbreak in a “transparent matter” and pledged to continue doing so.
