Wal-Mart Stores has unveiled plans to open “dozens of new stores” in South Carolina over the next five years.

The company operates 77 Walmart outlets, nine Sam’s Club stores and two distribution centres in the market.

The company said the move would create around 4,000 jobs in the state.

Commenting on the investment, Wal-Mart US president and CEO Bill Simon said: “We believe South Carolina is a great investment. We will open dozens of new stores in communities across the state – creating jobs, driving economic growth and offering South Carolinians the broadest assortment of goods at our everyday low prices.”
