An outbreak of e. coli in Japan, reportedly linked to pickled cabbage, has killed seven people and sickened more than 100 others.

The epidemic, which has hit the prefecture of Hokkaido, has resulted in the deaths of six elderly nursing home residents and one four year old child, the Japan Times reported.

According to health bulletins issued by Hokkaido regional authorities over the weekend, the outbreak has been linked to pickled cabbage produced by a Sapporo-based company.
