Russian grocer X5 Retail Group is planning to increase the number of locally-produced and private-label products it sells in its stores.

An X5 Retail spokesperson told just-food yesterday (22 March) that the retailer will increase the proportion of own-label SKUs from 12% to 50% in its discounters, from 6.5% to 25% in supermarkets and from 5% to 10% in hypermarkets over the next three to five years.

The country’s largest grocer said it plans to focus on local producers in order to increase “local economic growth”. X5 said it can “include such products very effectively and change the assortment of Russian goods” it offers.
