Tokyo’s police department took the action after receiving a complaint by supermarket operator Aeon, to which the product was delivered, reported Jiji Press.

Prima Meat is alleged to have used egg whites in its asparagus bacon roll-ups without indicating the ingredient on the label.

A Prima Meat affiliate made the product between March 1998 and January 2003 for delivery to Aeon. Aeon is reported to have repeatedly expressed to Prima its concern that the product may contain egg whites but Prima rejected the concerns, according to Aeon officials.
