UK grocery retailer Morrisons has appointed Neil Nugent as the company’s development chef.

The grocer announced today (23 February) that the Michelin-trained Nugent will work with the supermarket on product quality and new product development across its private-label ranges.

He joins Morrisons from upmarket rival Waitrose, where Morrisons said he was responsible for many recent product successes, including Heston’s Hidden Orange Christmas Pudding.

He has also spent 12 years with Asda in a similar role.

Morrisons CEO Dalton Philips announced plans to revamp the retailer’s private label range last year, planning to move from “own-label” to “Morrisons brand”.
