Tesco has remained coy on rumours that it is in talks to buy Polish grocery operator Zabka from Penta Investments.
The rumours follow comments in Polish newspaper Puls Biznesu by Penta managing director Jozef Janov who said that “negotiations are still ongoing and we will not comment”.

A Tesco spokesperson told just-food today (23 February) that it does not comment on “speculation and rumour”.
Reports earlier this month suggested that Penta Investments, which owns the Zabka Polska, was looking to sell it to private-equity firm BC Partners.
However, a Penta spokesperson told just-food at the time that it was still considering its options, which include a sale, an IPO or maintaining full control of the chain.
The convenience and supermarket chain operates some 2,300 outlets in Poland and plans to expand this by a further 650 in the next three-to-five years.

By GlobalDataPenta sold its Zabka and Koruna outlets in the Czech Republic to Tesco in December. The CZK1.2bn (US$62.1m) deal included 81 Zabka convenience stores and 47 Koruna supermarkets.
