Findus Group has said job losses at its Young’s Humberstone Road factory in Grimsby are less severe than initially thought after the frozen-food companmy reconfigured product lines and benefited from a rise in sales volumes.

The company had previously warned of the potential loss of up to 84 positions at the site, which manufactures seafood products under the Young’s brand.

However, a spokesperson for the group confirmed today (22 February) that this figure has now been cut to 47 voluntary redundancies. Some 28 people, meanwhile, have transferred to new roles within Young’s in Grimsby.

“This has been a difficult process for everyone and of course we regret the fact that redundancies have been necessary,” Steve Lidgett, operations director for Young’s Seafood Limited, said.

However, he added: “We are confident that 2011 will be a successful year and we are focused on accelerating growth by drawing on our scale, heritage and leadership in fish and seafood.”

The company said that it has completed the compulsory 30-day consultation period with staff.
