French retailer Casino is eyeing growth online after creating a new senior role to look after the company’s e-commerce division.

Casino this morning (28 June) named Gabriel Naouri, the son of chief executive Jean-Charles Naouri, as its head of brand, digital and innovation.

The new role, a spokesperson told just-food, would “accompany the development of the group, in particular in internet activities to drive growth with e-commerce”. Casino, she added, “convinced e-commerce and traditional sales outlets are strategically compatible”.

The spokesperson said Casino is investing “heavily” in new technologies and ranks as the number-one e-tailer in France and Colombia. “The group aims to take the lead in Brazil as well,” she added.

“Saving time for online shoppers has become an increasingly challenging imperative as [Casino] now assumes that products can be ordered online just like in a store, and either delivered to their home or picked up at a convenient location, without sacrificing choice possibilities.

“Casino has established its unique positioning by embracing this advanced form of precision selling, which requires perfect mastery of leading-edge technologies to optimise their operational synergy, guarantee cost-effectiveness and maximise customer satisfaction.”
