Spar has announced plans to roll out its Spar Express format in Zimbabwe.

The retailer announced today (14 February) that it plans to roll out the convenience format after opening two stores in the suburbs of Harare at the end of last year.

A spokesperson for Spar told just-food that the convenience store format was developed based on research into customer behaviour combined with input from international Spar operators as well as Zimbabwe-based ones.

Spar said the stores have a “multitude of convenience factors” such as food-to-go offerings including ready meals, healthy snacks, barbecue packs, a juice bar and a Treehouse smoothie bar.

The company opened the first two stores at the end of last year, with plans to open a further ten by June this year.
