Food giant Dr. Oetker has confirmed that it is looking at relocating a production line from a “third party manufacturer” to its facility in Lancashire in the UK.

A spokesperson for the company told just-food today (19 June) it has submitted plans for the relocation, which are currently “progressing through the normal planning process”.

It is understood Dr Oetker is seeking permission to extend its plant on the Moss Side industrial estate in order to facilitate the production line and new offices, according to the Lancashire Evening Post. New jobs would then be created over three years if production moves to Leyland, the publication noted.

A spokesperson for the company said: “The Dr Oetker Group is committed to continued investment to maintain its world class manufacturing facilities and is presently undertaking a feasibility study to relocate a production line which is currently located within the facilities of a third party manufacturer.

“The Leyland site is the preferred option and as such plans have been submitted to the relevant local authorities for approval.”

The company declined to comment on what products it wants to manufacture on the new line or who the “third party manufacturer” is, although reports have suggested it is a German firm.
